Care facility for adults and childrenDescription
Disorders of the endocrine system (hormonal system) can have a wide range of effects on bodily functions and are often difficult to diagnose. At the Center for Rare Endocrine Disorders, children, adolescents, and adults with rare endocrine disorders are cared for through specialized clinics and in close collaboration with the relevant departments and units at the Catholic Hospitals in Bochum.
The department focuses on the care of patients with rare thyroid disorders and monogenic diabetes mellitus in the Division of Diabetology, Endocrinology, and Metabolism of the Department of Internal Medicine (headed by Prof. Dr. med. Johannes W. Dietrich).
Diabetology, Endocrinology & Metabolism (Internal Medicine).
The section also cares for patients with rare forms of diabetes or rare disorders of the pituitary gland (hypophysis) and the hypothalamus. Another focus of our work is the care of people with rare disorders of calcium, phosphate, and bone metabolism, including in collaboration with the Center for Rare Bone Diseases.
The Children’s Hospital offers a specialized clinic for children and adolescents with rare disorders of calcium and phosphorus metabolism, as well as for children and adolescents with rare forms of diabetes, led by pediatric diabetologist Dr. E. Lilienthal and his team.
